Question for DiscoMike...?
DiscoMike, I did a little more investigating on this Oil Pump Failure on the DII 03's here on the forum... I just learned about this... My question to you is... I see where you mentioned (Quote Pasted Below) it being a design flaw on the Oil Pump itself and not the block where the front cover and pump mount. I just looked on my door and it shows a manufactured date of Aug. of 02 and my VIN # is smack dab in the middle of the SB... As you know from other posts... should I replace my front cover and oil pump while I am putting new Head Gaskets on this next week.. Or should I do the Gaskets and not be worried about the pump failure... My disco has 62,885 Miles on it and uses no oil between oil changes and I do them religiously at 3K miles.

First, they were not flawed engines, if so that is what we would have been talking about, it was an oil pump issue no more no less. If you were to check with Rover, there is a super ceded oil pump replacing the original.
Second, the build date on your door panel is the exact date of your trucks production, not someother day that Rover is hiding from you.
By your production date, your 03 should have been built with the newly designed pump, so I would go building up all sorts of storys against Rover as to a conspiracy, I mean as a retired service manager, that is one of the funnier stories I have heard.
As for some ones 04 having an oil pressure issue, guess what, everything that is mechanical is prone to failing, it is just the nature of the beast.

RE: Question for DiscoMike...?
So since I posted that, I did more read and more information has slowly trickled down from Rover indicating that it is the oil pump that fails but it is not the proble, it is alignment of the oil pump based on the molding of the block, that is causing the problem. All the pumps will wear based on this block flaw, replacing the oil pump will prolong the wear/failure but it can still happen.
This is all the newest information I have, sorry for the earlier mis-information.

RE: Question for DiscoMike...?
Thanks for the info... I can only hope now that I have a block that is machined correctly... I will keep a close eye for the low oil pressure light from now on in hopes that I can catch it quick enough if she decides to show her ugly face... Thanks a lot... and to everyone else on this forum who shares good information... THANK YOU
