Default Questions about BG products.

I bought the BG 44k and with the kit i was given some BG Air Intake system cleaner and a can of BG Induction System Cleaner.

Question is do i use the induction cleaner as i would sea-foam ? The other products are poured into the gas tank upon fill up, but the Induction cleaner says i need a special BG "tool".

Thanks in advance for the help

You need the flush apparatus that hooks up to the fuel rail and an air compressor for that matter.

I used the BG intake cleaner as per the Sea-Foam instructions. It worked fine. It threw a check engine light but went away after I reset it. I believe all these chemicals are similar, the BG is probably a little more consentrated. Sea-Foam threw a check engine light too. probably a cylinder misfire as it burned out the fluid.
I think that the BG aperatus is nothing more then a fertalizer glorified pump which shoots it into the top manifold or similar.

The BG injector (and all the rest like it) inject the cleaner at the fuel rail under pressure so it get squirted out the injectors with the engine running (while the fuel pump is disabled), the engine runs off of what is in the can. It is made to be injected that way, I'm sure you can send it down the intake but there are other products that are made to be used that way so why not use the correct stuff (like this: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...DZBYXKC0R5bl)?

That is correct and when done as we do with Seafoam, it works equally as well, if not a little better.

So lipadj46
i did a little more research on the 3M website. Here is the PDF for the 3M injector cleaner tool for a Discovery . 2003 Land Rover Discovery II 4.6L, V8 OHV, VIN 4 Bosch M5.2.1 MFI @ 51 PSI

My question is: Do you have remove the upper intake manifold to access the fuel rail schrader valve? I have been down that far to change out plug wires. But seems like a lot of work to clean the injectors + having to buy a new plenum steel gasket.

Also where can you buy this, it seems you need to find a 3M dealer

You can buy the kit as an aerosol or non aerosol with the adapter just google it, grainger and amazon I assume carry it for around $60 with the adapter. I've never used it but people have over on bob is the oil guy and say it is good stuff. I don't believe you need to remove the upper intake and should just be able to attach it to the schraeder valve, pull the fuse for the fuel pump pressurize the fuel rail and run the cleaner. Unless you are having issues that require a you may just want to put in 3 bottles of techron in a full tank and drive until its near empty.

Threadjacking alert.

So Lipad- what's the deal with the petroleum based PEA additive stuff in Techron? Why is it better than say a Lucas injector cleaner? Somebody asked me the other day and I didn't have an answer so I felt kinda stupid recommending it over STP, etc.

PEA was developed by chevron and is the most effective detergent and most good fuel injectors cleaners either contain it or at one time contained it. It is also the detergent (or something similar) you find in gasoline. Lucas may very well contain PEA I don't know you would have to call the and ask. Many cleaners have been reformulated and have the PEA taken out so they can offer it at a cheaper price some have lowered the concentration of PEA to save money.

Now take for instance seafoam, it never had PEA, people say to use it as a fuel injector cleaner but there is nothing in besides alcohol that will clean anything and gas already contains plenty of alcohol. Techron concentrate plus has a healthy dose of PEA and at $5 per bottle at walmart is pretty much the cheapest way to get a PEA based cleaner. BG, Amsoil, Redline etc. all have highly concentrated PEA based cleaners but they are more money and harder to find. So again most of the cheaper FI cleaners are not really that much more effective than using gasoline alone and if you want an effective one get one that has as much PEA in it as possible. Finding out the actual formulations is more or less impossible these days so I just buy what I know is good.

Oh yeah and even chevron has a cleaner with "techron technology" that you can find at Sam's Club and whatnot that stuff is no good and barely contains PEA, you need the techron concentrate plus.
