Default questions about driveshafts !!!

hey guys,

while i'm rebuilding my disco from the fire damage i decided to take the driveshafts out and have them gone over by my local driveline people

http://www.ccidriveline.net/301.html

these guys build driveshafts from scratch and they told me that mine were fine and even if they rebuilt thm... they wouldn't be as good as the joints that were in the driveshaft (OEM)

i have 125k on the shafts and i dont know if they have ever been replaced (entire shaft assembly, not the u joints themselves)

should i go against his advice and rebuild them for 222$ for the front 50$ for the rear or take the chance that these guys know what they are talking about?

you need greasable u joints. if you don't have them get them or plan on replacing your drive shaft every 50k... don't listen to anyone unless they deal with land rover discoverys on a regular basis. and obvs they dont'

If you only have one grease fitting on the front drive shaft, then these guys don't know what they are talking about.
If you have 3 grease fittings on the front, you'll be fine, just grease them at least twice a year, if not rebuild them and make sure they replace the centering ball.
At your mileage, if you haven't been greasing them often enough, then have the rear replaced also.
How does your rear roto flex look, any cracks between the 6 bolts?

the rotoflex needs to be replaced !!!! but the joints and shafts feel like they are brand new... and i donno what to do...

i've seen bad u joints in truck i know what they feel like..., mine drives fine, so i donno if i should replace the joints with all the added cost when the shop is telling me that the spicer joints and neapco center ball kit they have wont feel as tight as the current state of my shafts.

i cant beleive that they even have 5-4x joints left!!!!

The PO of my truck said he had no indications that the prop shaft was going to give. It just let lose on him on the highway. Flash forward to this week, well my transmission is cracked beyond repair, cost me 1k for the replacement. Factor in all the rest of the "while I'm in there stuff" it's going north of $1500. You don't want to be me.

I can send you a PDF on rebuilding a drive shaft, send me your e-mail address. Based on your mileage and the lack of regular greasing, I would suggest you replace all 4 u-joints.

Nonsense, there's nothing at all unique about Land Rover propshafts.
