Default Quick fan question - 02 or 04 style?

So, in digging into my oil pump project I managed to crack a blade on my already tired 04 fan / clutch assembly. before ordering a new one I did my research and know the earlier 02 style will fit and it is cheaper. Plus I like the two part design. My question is if it works the same for 4.6? The 04 fan has evelen blades vs nine on the 02 style. Not sure if LR improved the fan for the larger engine or decided to cut cost and use a all-in-one style fan that they could also charge more $$ for in repairs.

I'm not sure that it really matters but you can save some $$$ and use Dorman 620-112 and also replace your fan clutch with the Hayden Automotive 2781.

Even better. Is that a direct fit without modification to the shroud etc?

Correct, its completely plug-n-play and the side benefit is that you can get these parts from Amazon, RockAuto, or your local auto parts store.

Thanks for the tip. That's the info I was looking for. $49 on Amazon prime!

Agreed with @Best4x4 om the two piece setup.

On my last D2 I was really happy with the heavy duty Hayden fan clutch and the doorman fan. The hardware to attach the two was more difficult to source than it should have been though.

I would avoid the “severe duty” fan clutch. It’s overkill and makes it really hard to hear the motor if you ever need to diagnose a running issue. The heavy duty was perfect for me.

According to Amazon this is heavy duty. As far as hardware I was assuming bolts and lock nuts. Is it trickier than that?

I think there are threaded holes, so you don't need nuts. Fastenal should have what you need.

The fan clutches I use from Auto Zone usually come with bolts.
