Quick Temp Question

The stock thermostat doesn't fully open to 204 so I would say your cooling system is flawless if the highest you have seen is 204.

Thanks so much for all of the info. I had been putting off buying the extinct inline thermo bc lazy with too much to handle on the truck but I'm going to grab it right now!

For the extinct mod, should I do the 180 degree option? The truck is currently a daily driver. I make the bay area to southern ca drive (~450mi) every few months. I plan on doing some light trails and camping trips.

I too "put it off" for quite a while but I'm delighted with the results. I think the 180 degree option is suitable for nearly everyone. You can go down to a 170 if you think you have a slipping liner in a pre-facelift truck which will keep it just cool enough to prevent the liner slip (hopefully) but if you put a 170 in a 03-04 it will throw a code.

ok thanks! I'm thinking I'll go with the 180 then.

I do have a pre-facelift but I'd have no idea if I have a slipping liner or anything like that. I come from vw and bmws so I've mostly dealt with annoying electrical issues, cooling system failures, and constant part replacement. Never had any experience with engine failure type things...truck sounds and feels healthy minus a small tick.

just ordered the inline temp. I'll update this thread if it changes my quick start up temp.

also, no idea why I waited so long when it costs the same as a trip to the pump. man I love and hate these trucks haha

Assuming referring to my post Matt. Yes throwing codes for 02 sensors, SAI pump MAF etc. I had blown 5+ fuses trying to remove the front bumper light/turn signal.... accidentally leaving key on! I replaced all including the fuse 2 which I didn’t realize was a whole other issue. I have black soot spitting out of muffler staining driveway. SAI pump never runs. Replaced everything from new cat exhaust, SAI pump, MAF, exhaust emission components before realizing the blown fuse. Must have happened during HG replacement. Now to just find where wiring is damaged.
Actually to give proper credit to British Mechanic that ignored my troubleshooting attempts and found fuse issue in about 10 minutes!

Yes really great upgrade, the first thing I would do if I got another Disco.
