Rad Leak stopper on rover?
Hey guys,
for the longest time i've had a tiny rad leak where i would fill up the coolant to the top every month (been doing this for 3-4 months now) and i just came across a flyer from my local Canadian tire that has a Motomaster Liquid Radiator Stop Leak on sale and was wondering if it would harm my vehicle in any way if i put some in?
Oh and the leak is very minimal, I've never seen a puddle anywhere but the coolant level keeps on dropping at a very slow rate.

As others have said, stop leak isn't a good idea. Here's why:
In order to stop leaks, it has to coat the system with "stuff" that liquids won't pass through. Pretty obvious, right? The problem is that stuff also clogs thermostats (all of it says to remove the thermostat when you first put it in - which isn't possible without major bypass surgery on a DII), and coats the entire system with stuff that doesn't transfer heat as well as bare aluminum and/or copper, which reduces the efficiency of an already arguable undersized cooling system.
When you want to reverse this process, you may or may not be able to get all of the gunk out by flushing it (many times). Some people have had to replace heater cores because they haven't been able to get enough back out again.
Stop leak was fine for 1973 Pontiac Bonnevilles. Modern(ish) motors and cooling systems just don't take well to it.

Yes, it will harm IMO...Have you pressure tested your radiator? Have you ever replaced your headgaskets?

I've been a member for a year now and I've read that. I'm more of a guy that loves rovers but have very little mechanical knowledge. I'll go to a specialist sometime this week (or next week and find out how much it'll cost to repair it)

Thanks for this explanation!
