Default Radiator Hose Bleeder Screw -- FU

I recently posted a thread about replacing my T-Stat and coolant. In the thread I mentioned how surprised I was that all went as well as it did. The old stat came out with no issues and the new stat and coolant went as expected.

Well, yesterday morning I fired the Disco up (from a cold start) a immediately heard coolant "swishing" through the heater core. I said, SUM-BITCH! I thought I had all the air out of the system. Well I did. But another problem arose. Of course it would.

I investigated today and found that the plastic P.O.S. bleeder cap sheared off the upper radiator hose (old version hose). Half the threads came off the bleeder cap. Anyway I quickly went and purchased the updated hose (seen below) today from my local LR indy shop. Just finished fitting the new house and all is good again in Land Rover world.

If you have not replaced this hose yet - do it asap.

Could have bought a replacement bleeder screw from BMW for around $6, they are exactly the same.

Sorry to hijack the thread slightly, any clue where to find a Tee with the bleed screw? I have been looking at most of the common parts sites and have yet to fumble across one? Hoses are good, Im just looking for the bleeder Tee itself.

I don't think you can buy the tee separately.

Not for the new style. And all of the old T's are probably gone now.

Mike, I've only been around for about a year, but wouldn't sticking a new bleeder screw in one of these old hoses have been another failure waiting to happen?

When I bought my '99 D2 it had the new style hoses on it. They were stamped with a manufacture date in 2008. Since the truck had been overheated and needed a HG, water pump, and t-stat, I decided to replace all the cooling system hoses too. (That way I know exactly how old they are, where they came from, and what they've been through.)

At this point I'd expect that any of those old hoses are at least from prior to '08 if not older... If this guy still had the old top hose with the screw right in it, then it has to be pretty old and probably needed replaced anyway.

You cannot get just the Tee unless you were to pull it from an existing truck, you can only buy the whole hose assembly new, just did mine this weekend. I cracked the top off of my bleed screw and managed to get the broken piece out of the threads and replaced it with a fine thread 8mm bolt which worked for a while, but the threads were not exact and about 5 bleeds later I had stripped the threads, so I replaced the whole thing.
My question is if you are starting with a new assembly, is it better to go ahead and get the Brass BMW screw since plastic seems fairly light duty for arguably the most important screw on the whole truck?!

it is true there is no way to buy the tee.. whole assembly required. there is a thread entitled "bleed screw screwed me" it has a full line of comments on this as well as places to get the brass screw... I did both. replaced the whole hose assembly as well as replacing the plastic screw with the brass one. Now I have extras. and as an owner one must appreciate the ever growing collection of "extra" pieces in the ever growing kit to be carried when travelling.. In fact the kit is headed to the "I will need a trailer" stage. But hey I can fix it on the side of the trail.

I have never seen so many mixed up people who don't read replies.
You can buy a new bleed screw from BMW, for around $6, don't have to buy a new hose assembly, and no, you don't put a new bleed screw in a old style hose or it will be an accident waiting to happen.

Indeed. You told him to buy a new bleeder screw for an old style hose.
