Default Radiator question

hello,

This is my official first post on the site. It has been a great resource for me and my 2002 Disco.

SO here is the latest. While replacing the water pump, I knocked and broke the overflow line off. So as I was trying to remove the rubber tube from the radiator, I applied too much force and snapped off the connection from the radiator side.

So my question is, Is there a fix or am I buying a new radiator? (Really hoping for a fix rather than a radiator)

Thanks in advance,

Craig

Same thing happened to me... Time for a new radiator

I purchased mine from O'Reillys for a good price. It works great, I run consistently at 194 degrees.

Btw... Good time to put in a soft spring 180 degree thermostat while it's all drained!

Honestly you could probably use an NPT tap into the plastic with a plastic NPT hose barb (or even brass) and some thread sealant or epoxy (nothing to lose right) and it should hold easily.

I've heard others have tried that and it sometimes fails while driving down the road or trail... Might be pretty risky

grab a new radiator off ebay, cooling is not something to play with on these engines.

I just replaced my radiator for the same reason. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

That linked thread is a Disco I not Disco II. However, you seem to have purchased a DII radiator for 02 DII, so your problem is fixed. The DI uses a completely different radiator and that link could confuse someone.

It is possible to fix it.
I dropped a tool on the same part( where the thin hose connects to the radiator on drivers side top part) while I was cleaning around after an oil change (about a month ago). I tried to jbweld it but it didnt work, once the radiator gets hot, jbweld just peeled off.
Then I went to lowes and bought fiberglass cloth.
mixed the jweld( the one which comes in 1 red 1 black tube)
Cutted about 1inch to 5inch sized pieces of cloth and covered it with the jbweld then patched the area, using around 3 of these cloth pieces, waited til next morning and repeated the process.
2 thick layers of that stuff is still holding super strong after few hundred miles. Only bad part of this repair is that it looks super ugly but still prettier than spending $200.
