Radio Code
My battery won't hold a charge, it's five years old so I guess I am lucky to get this far. So I need to change it out.
I know when I change the batteryI will likely have to re-enter the radio code. Unfortunately I lost my entire owner's manual package, which I guess contained this code. Any thoughts on how to recover the code?
Thanks,

Easy enough. Just call up your dealer with your VIN and they'll give it to you. Just so you know, if you've entered the code wrong more than 3 times you need to leave the key and radio on for 1 hour to reset it so that you can reenter the code.
Or do what I did. Turn off all your electrics, leave the engine running, remove the old battery, install the new battery and you are good to go, no codes to enter, just like nothing ever happened.
You cannot open a door, hit the brakes, nothing, any electrical load will kill the engine.
And make damn sure that the battery cables dont touch anything. I put cotton jersey gloves over my battery cable ends.

yeah because even with the proper code its still a frekin pain... i just had to deal with all that... it took me two weeks of trying everything under the sun to get it right... then one day i got in my disco to leave work, tried the code, and like magic it worked...

Looks like AutoZone in the morning, then ... Spike - I tried what you mentioned on my TR6 and fried the alternator... won't it do the same to the Rover?
Any advice on the "best" new battery to get?

My local dealer gave me the code over the phone after leaving him a voice mail. I have swapped the battery (no battery ~20 minutes) and installed an iPod adapter (removing the radio, again for ~20 minutes) and haven't had to enter the code either time. I called the dealer and got the code before either of those jobs, just in case I did need it. It is now printed on any work order when I take it in, which is almost never. I was also told to look for the code on a sticker in the glove box.
Bob2003-It shouldnt, but if it makes you feel better than by all means turn the truck off, I was mearly stating what I had done.
I ahve done this on many cars, but your results may vary.
