Default Random Brake Failure

Today on the way to work I was coming up on a red light and I went to push the brake, this is after accelerating up to 50mph up a steep hill, and the brake peddle would not let me brake. It felt as if the peddle was stuck up.

I ended up downshifting and using the e brake to stop and then when I started moving again I regained use of the brake.

Any thoughts?

As in the peddle wouldnt go down... or it went down without resistance... or it went down but didnt slow the vehicle at all? did you pump the brakes at all?

stop driving it immediatly.
check brake fluid level/condition
check brake lines and connections including booster and linkage at pedal itself
check for obstructions in/on calipers/rotors
check for leaks
check brake light function on dash when you key up the ignition during self test

if alls clear bring it to a shop, if not, have it towed to one.

The peddle would not go down. Fluid is good, full brake service has been done in the last 6 months or so. Its ok now but after work I'm going to re check and stress test to see if I can't get it to happen again.

Blockage in the Lines, Master Cylinder, or Slave Cylinders. Seized Master or Slave Cylinder, or brake pedal linkage seized for some reason.

I would not drive it until you figured out exactly what that was. As you know, it could be a life or death situation, yours or others. Have a brake specialist look at it asap, unless you know brakes very well.
