Hi,

I've been looking to buy a Land Rover for some time now("the best 4x4xfar"), and have been doing alot of research on the Land Rover Discovery II SE7's (00-03) and the Range Rover HSE's (00-02). I'm located in Alberta Canada (plenty of excellent trails) - I'm a fan of off roading and camping etc.. so the vehicle will definately be getting used off road. Of all the reviews I've read so far no one seems to compare how these two vehicles stack up against each other (off road abilities). I figured this would be a good place to get some insight on this, any input I receive is greatly appreciated!

The range rover is not the one that rover uses to get the off road message to the public. The disco is the feature vehicle. A stock disco can handle most anything. suspension changes can make it better. I have a 96 with 130k that is not a road queen. Good things to have with any off roading are winches, first aid kit, pull straps(heavy duty) Learning off road driving if you are not familiar with it can be difficult. join a rover club and they can help and show you the limits and maybe some will show you beyond the limits. Enjoy your ride whatever the choice. Get the ranger specific area to see what the people that have taken their's off road and get as many opinions as you can. The other thing I would do is to go to the dealer and run their test off road course that many rover dealers have. It will give you an idea of what it feels like. Hope it helps. Gotta love a rover.
