Default Ready for another motor. Need Advice

So I'm ready to find a replacement motor for my 2004 Discovery that had a Range River 4.6l P38eP38 with secondary air. I put this Range Rover engine in the Disco2 after the original 04 head gasket blew. And so did the P38 engine.
So what's the best route here? Find another P38 which is supposedly the better motor or go with something else?
Thanks guys!

Fix your head gaskets

I don't think a blown head gasket is cause to replace the entire motor. Take the heads off, make sure your liners didn't slip, check the block to make sure it's level, and consider just replacing the gasket.

Both folks above are correct. Any Rover v8 will need head gaskets at some point. As long as the block checks out then you should be good to replace the gaskets and overhaul anything else that might need to be replaced like oil pump gears, water pump, timing chain, etc. I would use ARP studs over the standard TTY bolts personally.

I will add head gaskets on these are pretty easy, no timing issues just removing and replacing bits. Budget for new heads, you may not need them but be ready if required. You can do the whole job with the engine in place just get a set of wobble extensions (3/8's) for the rear lower left head bolt. And I second ARP studs

Careful with wobble extensions - those will screw up your torque values.

@boston4 Good point on the wobbles but it is just a bit of an angle to clear the brake booster. You might be able to use a long extension but that did not work on my Disco. There is a whole complicated formula based the angle in my case it worked out to 2 lbs more required for the same torque.

Exactly - just need to make sure you do the math

Lots of good threads on doing head gaskets and resources like rave manual, and AB's video.

I did start a thread with sources for new engines if you decide to go that route.

Make sure you change the valve seals and have the block and heads evaluated pressure tested if I decide to do the head gaskets.
