With DII's you need to replace the whole hub as one unit.
DI's you just replace seals. Yet another reason DI's are better than DII's.

TWO more reasons the D1 is better
[sm=icon_ladiesman.gif]The front seal on my rear axle was leaking when I bought my truck, new axle breather and no more leaks. Man I love it when it it is simple. And cheap. And reliable.

so can you just replace that o-ring to stop a leak?

If your tube is clear, and you are leaking gear oil, you need a hub, PERIOD.
mike, I've had about enough of you and your nonconstructive condescending attitude towards me and my questions. If you have a personal problem with me please feel free to PM me your number and we'll settle this...old man.
New hubs, at least from the dealer, do not come with new o-ring seals. You can try a new o-ring, but 8 out of 10 times, the hub bearing itself is leaking and a new hub is required. Get both and save yourself some trouble.

kyle, thanks for clearing up the confusion. I could not understand why such an expensive repair was needed for a simple seal, but if the hub bearing itself is leaking then it makes sense that it needs to be replaced.
