google the RAVE manual. It has all of the info you need, and it is a free download.

Why, what is leaking and are your sure it is gear oil?
The are 2 different leak areas, the hub it self and the large o-ring between the hub and the axle housing.
As mentioned, download a free Rave CD and you will be set.

Thanks guys. I was at the muffler shop and the guy told me I had a rear axle seal leaking all over my rear brakes, and I need pads and rotors. I didn't agrre to let him do the job, and I wanted to find out all that's entailed before I climb under the truck.

That manual is sure going to come in handy.

You need to remove the calipers and rotors and then remove the 4 hub bolts and pull the axle/hub assembly out and replace the o'ring.

you can clean oil off the brakes/rotors and they'll be fine. Replace O-rings, change diff fluid and add some lucas diff oil. If it still leaks you'll need new hubs.

First, as I already mentioned, there are 2 seals, one inside the hub, the other, an o-ring between the hub and the axle, need to figure out which to replace. Don't want to spend $340 plus for a hub when the $1.29 o-ring may be the only problem.

As for the other reply, yes, you can clean the rotor but"NOT" the pad. The first time the pad gets hot after being cleaned, it will leash out old axle oil and slip again.

Does the rear axle often start leaking on both sides at the same time? Mine has just started doing that. Should I try the breather first? I just put new pads and rotors on the rear in october and everything was dry then. Weird that both sides started leaking at the same time.

Are there any special tools needed to pull the hub off?

I am going to try the $1.29 seals first on mine.

Check your axle breather first.
If it is clogged it will cause leaks.
