Default Rear Door Table

Decided to fab a rear door table for the DII today. Like the Yeti cooler wheels I made recently, the table is life changing and something I should have done years ago.

I started by removing the old panel and using it as a template to cut 22 gauge zinc coated steel. I also installed 1/4-20 rivnuts in place of the original plastic ones. That allows the stainless hardware to attach the panel to the door.

I also fabbed two hinges that attach where the tire carrier comes through the door. Those are 1/8” steel flat bar.

Lastly, I made a frame for the fold down door that loosely matches the curve of the door. It is 1/8” flat bar, fully welded, and topped with 18 gauge expanded metal as a table top. The entire contraption is coated in bedliner.

I also made a 5# propane bracket for the rear ladder. Its position allows the hose to go under the door and attach to a gas stove on the reverse side of the door.

Im looking to hit some trails this summer—perhaps out West—and wanted a more accommodating cooking setup. I think this will do the job and isn’t going anywhere.

The fold down table really looks excellent. Well done

i feel I’d be too weary of using that kind of heat so close to the glass & it’s proximity to the interior.
Everyone seems to have good luck with it tho.
