Hello Everyone!

Anybody else have a loud rear gate mechanism? Not the assembly along the bottom of the gate itself but the noise comes from the "hinge pin" with c-clipthat the assembly 'arm' attaches to the rear bumper with. The noise that emits from that pin everytime the dorr is opened or closed sounds like the door is going to fall off! I have tried to lube the pin but the loud cracking/popping noise when the gate is used remains. Could the pin be worn or the hole that the pin rests in be stripped??

Normal.

 

" NOT NORMAL", just a lack of maintance. Clean and grease the lower door check and it shouild go away.

 

Wile it may not be normal, I too have cleaned and greased and even taken apart the whole assembly. I still have a loud pop when closing the door. Going on 2 years and it hasn't fallen off yet...

 

Then your lower door check has failed and should be replaced before it binds up.

 

Nothing should grind/pop/squeak normally. Even spring compression noise can be done away with if you maintain the parts properly.

when you refer to "lower door check" , are you talking about the mechanism attached to the bottom of the door? ALL of my noise comes from the small 'pin' and c-clip wherethe 'closing rod' attaches to the bumper.....

Shoed up at the dealer when I first got my Disco, and complained about that exact thing. Service manager who is also a member of the local club, said 'NORMAL' So I said 'no way', he said follow me outside and took me to his Disco. Same thing. He said they all do that!! I said all of them??? He said wait here.....Came back with 4 sets of keys from 1 2003 and 3 2004 that were on the lot for sale. They all did it!!!!

You open the the door and ...tock,tock ,tock So, I say NORMAL!!!

 

Haha I don't believe it..Get some white lithium grease, WD-40 all the hinges and catches, then smother them all in white lithium. It won't tock tock tock anymore!

 

Gimme a little credit, I had tried all of this before going to the dealer. You will notice that under the door, are catches at different places to allow the door to remain and holdopen at different opening width. When the rod/bar slides pass these catches, it emitsa tocking sound.
