Default Rear seat release latch broke off

I found posts about the seat lever getting stuck, but have any of you had the latch break off? It happened while I was picking up a trunk at the furniture store. It snapped off in my hand and surprised me a bit. Luckily the other seat folded and the trunk still fit.

I'm pretty sure I can snap another latch back in if it's intact but I can't find any replacements. I imagine most people never think to remove the latch from an old seat before salvaging it.

I can release the seat with my leatherman but it's somewhat annoying.

Take the piece off and look at how the cable attaches to that latch. It's shown in RAVE. I'll bet a trip to a decent bicycle shop will get you a way to connect a bolt up to the cable. Thread the bolt through the top latch and you'll be set until you locate a new part.

I've been meaning to post my update for this. I found a local salvage yard that will let you pull your own parts and they happened to have a D2. Most of the vehicle was stripped but the rear seat was still there. In bad shape, yes, but all I needed was a piece of it.

The instructions for removing the latch are on page 1023 of the PDF manual. It's much more simple than they describe. Just remove the end cover. Don't bother removing the seat back. Detach the cable at the bottom of the seat first, then you have enough slack to detach it at the latch. Don't try to pop out the little black plug. There's a small slot to remove the cable instead.

Because the seat was a different color I had to refit the red plastic part to my beige trim. The latch parts are all fairly delicate so I had to take great care not to snap something when removing and refitting the parts.

for others who may need this part-one guy is selling this part from Italy on eBay. I couldn't find it anywhere. I am posting it for others who may need it.

Yes this happened to me too. I got another from salvage yard. Using the pliers does indeed suck

I had this issue with my 01 a few years back. I found donors in the local u-pull yard, but in my case the entire rear row was nicer than mine so I R&R'd the entire middle row.

If you take the trim plate off the seat you can still fold it without pliers.
