Default Rear subs

Ever since my I owned my disco the rear subs have been blown. They are 6.5". I've found some replacements (upgrade) to the factory speakers. I removed the factory speakers and see thier are four wires attached to each speaker. The ones I'd like to replace them with (a couple of sub Kickers) only have two connections - positve and negative. Does anyone know how I could connect the new speakers? The foam lining around the speakers is completly seperated (blown). Has anyone had any expeience with this?

There was somebody on here who bought new subs from Wal-Mart for $20 and they were a exact fit.
Other than that I have no idea.

go to the wrecking yard and pick up some subs out of a late-model DII. They sound great and are easy to retro fit into a DI space. Best of luck. Phil DI 95k miles

I got mine out of a 2003. They had a different connector which I just cut off and soldered on the connector from my 1999. They cost $20, dealer wanted $200 plus. I bought two JL Audio W0 subs to install but didn't need them, the sound out of the 03 replacements is great. Phil

Well thanks for the help, guys but it doesn't help... Not that I don't appreciate responses... It's a luxury, I'll figure it out. I'm just asking how a four wire speaker can go to a two wire speaker.

Looking at the RAVE manual it appears the your 98, which I'm assuming has the premium radio system being an LSE, has dual coil subwoofers. In order to hook up to the subs you bought which are single coil you'll just need to use one of the positive and negative sets for each sub.

Let me know how the Kickers fit in the factory enclosure and how they sound. I want to upgrade mine at some point.

Are you sure it's the subs making the BVVV BVVV noise. From what I have seen it is most likely the rear lisence plate is loose, rear lisence plate bolts are too long or the rear lisence place plastic bracket is brocken. All of these could cause the BVVV-BVVV noise and not the sub.
I hope this helps

I thought my subs were blown to but it was the rear door cover and license plate. Sounds a little better but I am going to upgrade soon.

98 rover guy, you are talking about the impedance of the subs, 4 wires= Dual Voice Coil
2 wires= Single Voice Coil there are many options for wiring so you dont over (or under) load the amp. you should be able to just wire one set of leads (+ and -) from each DVC sub to the new SVC subs and just tape off the 2 unused sets really good. The amp will only send power where it is being used.
