Default Rear sunroof leak?

On my d2 I have had many leaks but the one that annoys me the most is the one that goes out of the headliner at the rear ac. My dad and I have tried everything from sealing the sunroof with silicone to taping it shut. We have had it for over 10 years and never found where it is leaking from. Could it be the drip rails? In the corners it looks like there might be a hole. No leaks from driving and it only comes out of the headliner in the rear where the ac is. So it doesn’t flow down to the front. Anyone else had the same problem?

Thank you,
Tyler H

Having successfully fixed two leaky sunroofs on my 2002, I feel equipped to advise on this: leaks come from one of two places:

1. The seal between the actual metal of the roof and the sunroof housing.

2. A shot rubber seal that seals against the glass.

...hold on, let me switch from my phone to my Mac...

...much better...

For the first, the headliner comes down (not hard at all), and then you have free and total access to the sunroof assembly. Remove the sunroof housing (look at Rave, search the forum, ask here if needed) and lay down a fat bead of silicone. Reassembly. I'm 95% certain your leak source is here. They almost always are.

For the second, pop open the sunroof and remove the rubber seal from the groove it sits in. Clean it with warm, soapy water, put some sort of gummifledge on it, and reinstall. That might solve you leak. It'll at least help.

Brandon 318.... nailed it in two, on my car front one out to clean as reseal on the outside of the roof, rear on removed the seal cleaned out the grove, lots of nice black sticky and replace the seal pulled the glass down tight to keep the seal in place, and left over night to all to go off, no more leak so far

In my experience it is much more complicated than that, search my post on sunroof and you will find the details with photos.
