Default Rear window issue...not regulator?

Hi all.

My 2003 Disco II has an issue with the driver's side rear door window. It operates fine at the top 3-4" of travel, but if I lower it any further, it will not come back up without assistance. I pulled the door panel and the regulator seems to be in working order. When it is lowered too far, it almost seems like the motor is skipping trying to put it back up.

Any thoughts on this? Do you think I just need a new motor or the entire motor/regulator assembly? I haven't pulled the assembly out yet for closer review, but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced a similar issue.

Thanks.

Any suggestions before I dive into this?

Thanks.

Hi Jrkstore43

This will be my first post on the site (just btw)...

Had a problem with my front driver's window over the weekend. One of the rollers running in the bottom track broke and climbed out of the track. Maybe start by checking these "wheels". Apparently they break often.

Also check the teeth on the gears. There may be a couple gone.

So, I pulled the regulator and motor today.

It's definitely not the plastic wheel that sits in the track. I pulled the motor off the regulator and all the teeth are on the gear, but if I try to actuate the unit and hold pressure against the regulator arm, it feels like a gear is slipping. The teeth on the regulator and mating motor gear appear fine, but could it be an internal gear on the motor?

I'm just trying to figure out if I just need a new motor, regulator or both. My thought is a new motor at this point, but what do you think?

Thanks!!!

I just wanted to close this out.

I got a new regulator motor and that solved the problem. It seems like the internal worm gear was the culprit. In any event, it works like new now!
