Hello friends, my apologies if this is posted in the wrong area.

Today is Monday...
On Friday I brought home a 2001 Discovery SE7 with 58,000 miles and LOVE this truck, I've wanted one for years, and finally just went out and bought one. The dealership's price for a warranty was unreasonable at best so I've elected to shop around for a bit. Nothing is currently broken besides the clock but I'd like the piece of mind a warranty brings. I bank at a small local credit union and they notified me today that they are unable to offer a third party warranty on the following vehicles: All Hummer products, Mercedes GWagon, Dodge Viper, and all Land Rover products. This naturally came as a shock. If you live in the United States I'd love to hear success stories in obtaining a third party warranty--either through a larger bank (I live in a metro area of about 400,000 people), or an online site that isn't a scam or phishing attempt.

I second that request. I think I need one for my 98 rover...

 

If I figure this out, I will definitely spread the word.

 

So what was the price and terms of the one they quoted you and from what company?
Usualyy have a Rover is out of factory warranty, it is nearly impossible to get anyone to write them.
You might want to talk with a Rover dealer, both the service manager and the finance manager and see what they might know.

I'm on the same page as Disco Mike in asking you how much the dealer wanted for their warranty. Bottom line is...if it was $3500 or less for 3 yr./36 months that covered major driveline and electrical components, you should of grabbed it.

I agree, it is expensive, but will pay for itself quickly.
I bought a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty and 4 years ago it cost me $3100, it paid for itself 14 months later.

I bought an 02 Disco back in Feb and got an extended warranty for 4years more or 100,000 miles for 3K, I got it at Land Rover Houston North, at first I thought it was liitle expensive, but after my first maintenance I was able to replace several items worth more than 3.5K, so it has already paid itself........

Dealer wanted $4300 for 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty. I recieved two quotes today from outside vendors--one was $4500 so I thanked them for their time, the other was 4 year/48,000 more miles for $2800, I'm asking for more info to be sent and am researching, so far the company appears to be legit.

 

Let us know what you found; I'm looking to purchase my first Disco and would like to have a little peace of mind with a warranty.

There are only a couple of companies writing warrantys on Rovers, I would suggest you talk with a Rover dealer and get factory coverage.
