Default Recommended 16" tires for Disco II

Never got around to getting off-road tires, until now-- so wanted to see if there was anything has changed...

Looking for some tires-- 85%/15% highway/off-road: highway driving (600+ miles to the mountains and the desert) then off-road in southern Utah / northern AZ, etc.

I have factory 16" rims and NO lift and am planning on either 255 65 16 or 255 70 16-- which would you recommend? Do I need to recalibrate the speedometer if I go with the 70s?

I won't have enough lift or bumper clearance for larger tires until my next set of tires. Need to save $$$.

Previously these tires were suggested:
Dueler AT Revos
Cooper S/T's
General grabber A/T2

So...any new suggestion?

Thanks for your help!

I have 255/70/16, they fit well. My speedo went from 5+ miles over to just about right.

Goodyear Dura tracks...

Or if you want a less aggressive
Goodyear Silent Armour.
You should be okay without recalibrating

Running 255/70/16 stock with no issues. Actually got my speedo about right checking against my GPS. Gained an inch from the 255/65/16's.

Thanks guys!

I'm planning to go 255/70/16 with either the Cooper STs or Firestone Destination ATs, if I can't find the Coopers.

Thakns again for the suggestions.

I have the Cooper Discoverer ATR's and are great. Very quiet on the pavement, and good reviews off-road.

I just got Falken Wildpeaks last a little over a week ago, and i am extremely impressed thus far. Very quiet on the road, ride smoother than the Hankook Ventus it came with. Definitely recommend these tires and if youre wanting to save money you can pick them up for just over 120 or at least thats what i paid for them, there are some really solid reviews out there on them too.

If I find these for under $150 I'll probably jump on them.

If youre pretty set on those, look on treadepot.com theyre only 176 there. Gotta say though if youre doing 85% highway i would probably lean more towards an All Terrain.
