Default Remove Head Bolt Behind Sec. Air Question

Hi Guys,

I am replacing my head gaskets and am down to removing the head bolts. I can't seem to get the bolts that are partially blocked by the secondary air valves. I'm thinking I need a swivel extension for the socket, which I don't have. I have a wobble extension but that is not working. Will the swivel extension hold up to the torque? Any other recomendations? Any help is appreciated since I need to get these off tonight and machined tomorrow or I have to wait until next week.

Thanks,
Jamie

I'm not sure if I follow your correctly. But...

I'm assuming you have the SA manifolds removed but have the valves still threaded to the heads?

If so, they come out with a metric allen wrench. I forget the size, but if you look closely you can see the hex pattern.

Threw me for a loop, too.

you can also put a wrench on your SAI plugs. mine were easy to get out. be careful not to warp the copper pipes running to your valves though

Right you are! It actually says right in the RAVE manual that it is a 9mm hex (i missed that step). So I went to the store today for a 9mm hex and might as well asked for 9mm Luger ammo cause there are none to be found. All the sets I saw go from 8mm to 10mm. So I got a set of impact swivel sockets and finally got the head bolts off. Once I had the heads off, i removed the valves with a adjustable wrench.

By the way, the RAVE manual says to remove and discard those little valves for the SAI. The Dealer wants $50 a piece for those and they are special order, so I am reusing mine.
