Default Removed 3 Amigos with ABS Sensor replace, now back

Hello all,

Got my truck read and it said bad Front Right ABS sensor so we installed a new sensor and the amigos were gone for almost 500 miles (in two days) through deathvalley. Now at home on the streets it just threw the 3 amigos again. Any ideas?

disconnect, clean, reconnect, erase code and see what happens next

Have you pulled the ABS fault codes on the new fault?

Replace the hub instead of just the sensor. New hubs come with the sensor mounted. A tiny amount of play in a worn hub can throw various codes -- not certain that it could trigger the amigos but I wouldn't be surprised.

I have installed either bad sensors, or have damaged them during install and had the amigos recur.

I have had better luck with the cheap sensors that use the OEM plug than the kind you splice in.

Just my two cents.

New hubs are also cheap and you could do the whole shebang while there.

I have a very intermittent 3 Amigo's where I usually ONLY see the warning if a rain front is coming in. What is the cheapest reader for these codes and are these types of codes only readable when the condition exists? I am also considering doing a brake hose replacement/coolant flush bleed routine and I understand I cant simply bleed the brakes I need a plug in device. Can you guys clue me in to the device necessary?

For just reading codes, you can get an iCarsoft for about $100. I’ve used it for specific codes on the Amigos and it works great.

The iCarsoft LR2 also resets codes in all sub-systems and allows you to read live data. Doesn't really let you change any settings though.

Thanks... will the iCarsoft allow me to properly bleed the brakes if I replace brake hoses/master cylinder etc?

Not natively, but there are workarounds involving the application of voltage directly to the actuators that let you bleed without needing any device.
