I am trying to remove the front driver's side door handle on a D2. I got the door panel off according to the RAVE, but I can't get the control rod unhooked. The RAVE only says "3. Release control rod from latch" but I don't know how. I saw on the forum someone said to reach in the door and pull the rod up but it did not work for me.

 

All control rods have a captive collar at the end.
The captive collar grips onto the control rod.
Move the captive collar from the control rod.
IT will try to fly off when you try to move it off and fall into the door.
Once the captive collar is off, then the control rod just slips out.

 

I am assuming the captive collar is the clearish plastic thing around the bottom of the rod. If so, how do you remove it?
