Default Removing Radio/cassette player

Hey guys I am way deep into my heater core repair and I pretty much have the entire dash ready to be removed. However I don't have the stupid special tool from LR to remove the radio, which is part 86-006 according to RAVE. I tried to fashion a similar tool out of junk credit cards but to no avail. Is there a way to to take it out without this part?

Lastly would a dealer have one?

Thanks

To bad you didnt ask first, there is a access panel on the passenger side of the dash, pull back the carpet, there is a panel to remove, there is the heater core.

You can buy the stereo removal tool at Radio Shack, it's like $5.

Mmm Spike I don't think the panel you mention is present on the 2003. I was actually able to remove the heater core without taking out the dash but heater pipes require too much bending to possibly refit the replacement without removing everything. It's too tight of a fit.

I had started a thread about the heater core a long time ago and no one mentioned an access panel. It was pretty much, remove dash, remove HVAC, loosen the bracket on the heater hoses. Replace-refit.

I know it is easier than that, but I have not done it on a Disco, I have seen many write ups, but I cannot tell you where to find the write ups, like a idiot I never bookmarked them.

Well Radio shack doesn't carry car stereo equipment here. I also tried harbor freight and a car stereo place a few mins away. Ugh another pain in my ***.............

The previous owner of mine had the dealer change out the heater core and they had to remove the dash.

theres links on here on how to pull the radio unit out of the dash by using file divider tabs like for an office filing cabinet. I did it and it worked GREAT.
