The Reoccurring Code
About every two months I get the following code: P0455. Every time I get it cleared and they say its you gas cap. Well I'm beginning to think its not because I keep getting it and I am VERY careful every time I put my gas cap on. Even my indy. mechanic cant find any problems. What else could this be? I am running out of answers and I am tired of having that light starring back at me.
Thanks for any help!

The emissions system pressurizes the gas tank and then checks for how long it takes for the pressure to bleed off. If it is too fast it will throw the gas cap code. You might have a leak somewhere on the filler neck.

does the cap bind before it clicks, if so, replace it... but yeah, lots of other things can through this code. purge valve, trickle valve, depending on what evap system you have, fuel tank pressure sensor, or lines to it, dmtl pump, vent valve charcoal canister... you need to get it checked out somewhere that can diag it, have them smoke test it, if it passes a .5 mm nitrogen test (theyll know what that is, if not, take it somewhere else) then you need to check the fuel tank pressure reading and purge valve opperation
