replaced starter - will not start
2004 Discovery SE7 65,000 miles
I have had starting issues with the truck for about two months. Up until now, I related it to cold start and weak battery problems. A simple jump got the car going every time.
After another starting problem on Friday, I bought a new battery on Saturday. Installed it and the car wouldn't turnover at first. Just "click". After the fourth or fifth attempt it started. Ten minutes later it wouldn't start again. Picked up a new starter and installed it. Still will not start. Any ideas???

Your battery is dead, brand new batteries are charged at the factory but then from the time they are made they are warehoused, then shipped, then they sit on a shelf in the store for months at a time and they will go dead.
You need to charge your battery.
You need to charge your battery.
I did check all the connections. Clean and tight. I checked the battery and it's registering 12.5 volts. Searching through all the posts on this site I came across a thread in which the poster gives step by step instructions on how to replace a starter on a disco I with pictures. In the pics, I can see a ground wire that connects at the upper mounting bolt. My disco doesn't have this ground wire. It appears that the ground wire attaches to the engine with a wire harness. Does that sound right?
Lead acid automotive batteries are 6 2.1 V cells, giving you 12.6 volts. A good alternator with a working voltage regulator should be putting out about 13.8 volts, making charging a cell pack of 14 volts impossible.

When I asked about checking all the connections, I meant also both ends of the grounds. A lot of people overlook the return path.
