Default Replacing brake pads on disco 1

Hey guys, Im stuck doing a complete brake job on my 98 Disco. The question is. Do i remove the two pins being held on by cotter pins!? Or do i remove the two ,13mm 12 point bolts?!

Ive seen write ups saying to do either... So im confused!

Let me know!

Thanks everyone!

Remove the 2 pins. Make sure you compress the pistons back into the pistons or you'll never get the new pads in.

Do you have the RAVE manual yet. It tells you step by step how to do it in there.

How old is your Mac? I have a MacBook Pro and I have no problem running the RAVE manual. DiscoMike has an older Mac (pre-Intel processor) and I think he has the RAVE manual. You may want to talk to him about how he runs it if he does.

Just remove the pins, compress the pistons and drop the new one's in. Easy as pie. Check the springs on the pins too. If they aren't any good, replace them. Mine were bad and caused some chatter from the pads.

Define "complete brake job"
Replacing pads only, which is all you can do by removing the 2 pins, is not what I'd ever call a "complete brake job."

Yes, click on the link in my signature and download the manual. You'll learn a lot more about your truck looking through the manual and figuring out how to do things on your own than by asking here. If you still can't figure it out after looking up what you need in the manual then come here and ask your questions.

You can either download just the Discovery manual by clicking where it says Discovery or further down the page it will say download link with a warning about the download size next to it which downloads the RAVE manual for all the modern models including Discos, Rangies, Defenders and Freelander. Either one will work just fine.

You should have opened the bleed screws when you pushed the pistons back. If you don't, it pushes all of the crap in the pistons back into your lines. I would do a complete flush if you are going to bleed anyway. Do it just like bleeding, only keep pumping until clear fluid comes out. DOT4 fluid only.
