Default replacing engine

i have a 2002 discovery II with 130K miles. I am thinking of having a rebuilt engine installed. I am concerned that another expensive part will fail transmission etc. Any words of wisdom? Thanks

yeah, why are you replacing your engine? the transmission is one of the best parts of these trucks so unless your driveshaft goes thru it, it should be in half descent shape.

Default replacing engine

Thanks for replying to my problem. I am forced to replace the engine since it has been leaking oil and antifreeze. I was driving on the highway the temperature guaged pegged high and by the time I was able to get on to the shoulder it overheated and lost compression. I was going to ask about the transmission. with 130K miles do i have to worry that it will be the next to go or should i have many more miles before that happens. when the engine is replaced is there anything special to look for with the drive train including the transmission.? thanks for your help. To some it does not make sense to put 4 or 5 K into the truck. I think it does, other then the engine the truck is in great shape.

hi hilltopersx, first thanks for your reply. I did not know tht there was a land rover club in the northeast. Where are most of the members located? I live in New Jersey. Do you know of any good shops in the area that work on land rovers. The land rover dealer that I have been talking too will replace the engine for $3K. I found a rebuilt from cannibal rover in Oklahoma I was wondering if anyone heard of them? Thanks

transmission will be fined just service it with a new fluid and filter. same with the transfer case and diffs. if you are going to buy a used engine then i would say do all the gaskets before installing the engine (i like the kit from AB), new 8mm wires (magencor, STI or Kingsborne), plat plugs (i like bosch plat +4), new thermostat, water pump and you should be good to go!
