Replacing the frame...has anyone done it before?
Hey all!
Was thinking about replacing the entire frame with a new galvanized one in the next couple of years. Is this a job do-able without a lift? I'm not under any misconception that it'll be simple or clean, just wondering if it's literally impossible just just use a host of jack stands and jacks.

I suppose it could be done that way but it would be such a pain.
or well maybe not so bad if you have rock sliders and you could put the jack stands under them, leaving room to move the frame out from the front or rear

I mean... it's either that or pay a shop to do it, which would bring the total from $6K (just the frame) to I'm guessing $30K with the frame + labor. For that I'd rather buy rock sliders just for the project and then sell when done.
There's at least one YouTube video showing frame replacement in time lapse. Pretty cool. As for doing it without a lift, I thing that would be very difficult. For one thing, I think you would need to have a lot of floor space,
You could do it, but you'd probably have to take out the engine, transmission, and suspension to clear the undersize of the vehicle. I suppose you could also use a set of hi lift jacks to get extra lift, but good luck getting me anywhere near that.
Who said a rust free frame is 6k... Your figures seem way off. the rear half frame is $1299 at AB. 30k for labor is crazy talk. What exactly is your problem and how extensive is it? A member here recently had some rusted frame rails fixed for $300.
4998.95 + 440 sales tax plus a handful of hundreds for shipping ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
