Replacing my front hub today wish me luck
I'm finally getting to my front hub. I am following the procedure from here:
http://www.discovery2.co.uk/fronthub.html
I went out and bought a breaker bar, 300 lb torque wrench (can not afford a 400 lb wrench) and a bearing puller pretty cheap from harbor freight. I've already done my ignition wires and O2 sensors so we will see how frustrating this job is. I'm starting this thread just in case I run into any problems I will post them here.
Now if I can only get this this stupid staked nut off...

OK I got everything off but have a couple questions:
1) I had to drill out the screw that holds on the rotor/disc because the phillips head was shot. Can I get a replacement screw from a local shop or do I have to order it?
2) I was also having a gear oil leak from this side so I took out the whole drive shaft so I could replace the seal. Can I get a seal from the local autozone etc. or do I have to special order it?
3) When I replace the drive shaft is there anything special I have to do or just fit it in to the differential and press it in then replace the hub?

2) unsure if your local parts stores would have one of those, alanticbritish or rover parts that you guys all use is the best bet I suspect, guys "over there" would probably know the best place
3) yep..
Did you find the write up useful btw ??
I find your website a great resource. I would have never even attempted this without your site as I have never done any work on my truck like this (I did the magnecores, Oil changes, and O2 sensors but nothing like this). So anywho thanks for taking the time to put this stuff out there. When I'm done with school and back teaching I think I will keep doing this stuff myself especially with all the resources out there.
That's funny I can't even imagine the disc accidently falling off. I had to beat mine off pretty relentlessly. I'm learning though, if something does not want to come loose get a bigger hammer/wrench. The 3 ft torque wrench I bought is a life saver.

Just my luck I go to put the new hub on and the threads in one of the 4 holes that the hub bolts screw into is fubar'd and it ate a couple rows of threads off by bolt. Looking at it it is pretty obvious I should have seen it and so have the Rover Land Parts. No way this is going to work and now I need to go order another bolt. How is Rover Land Parts Customer Service? Unfortunately our area is experiencing phone problems so I can's call them.
