Replacing rear carpet with plywood?
My carpet in the back of my disco has started to smell so I removed it and found some surface rust and the carpet was soaked. I was thinking about replacing the carpet with a sheet of plywood covered in marine carpet to prevent it from happening again.
has anyone else done this in the past? If so how did it work. And what other recommendations do y’all have for replacing the carpet? I was thinking about just spraying it with bedliner but then I read about how much noise it makes.
thanks!

go for it. just make sure to bolt it down. you could also rip the foam out, recover the floor with dynaliner and sound deadener, and then put the carpet back in once it has dried out. the stock foam is open cell, so it holds water.

Yeah I have a seven seater with both of the jump seats out so I was planning on bolting it down with the mounting points for the seats. I was looking at dyna liner but it is way too expensive for me. I was thinking about putting spray foam into all of the divots and trimming it flush to make the bed flat. I think that could help with sound and make the plywood more sturdy.

I think my final plan is to:
any thoughts on this?
- Treat the rust spots
- spray it with rust preventative primer
- Spray with bedliner
- fill all the gaps with spray foam
- make a plywood floor
- Paint plywood with mold mildew repellent
- cover plywood with marine carpet
any thoughts on this?
The most common leak that makes the rear carpet wet is the weather seal at the top of the tailgate.
I used backing cord tucked into the fold it has to bolster it.
yiu may also need to adjust your gate latch or hinges to close that gap.
