Default Replacing sunroof(s)

I've had my headliner removed for replacement and ordered two new roofs..., the merchant told me installation was pretty simple, just removing the bolts to allow install, then replacing them (and, of course, attaching the clips/wires/drain tubes).

Can anyone elaborate on this process? Is it that easy? Dealer (Stealer) wanted $2700.00 to replace both; got the parts for under $300.00 ea. Worth the savings if it's this easy.

Appreciate any thoughts;
Thank you,
Larry

Why are you replacing the entire assemblies? You can replace the motors without removing the roofs. In fact, you can replace the front one without even pulling the headliner.

If you really need to replace the entire sunroof assemblies, you'll have to start by removing the motors anyway. Then you remove the tray from the frame. It's a bunch (a dozen or so) screws. It's not all that bad of a job, especially if the liner is already out.

Edit: if you have rear a/c you'll need to drill out the rivets that hold the ductwork in place.

Daryl,
Thanks for the quick reply. The motors work, but both rooves (is that right?) sound like they're "off track." I'm not sure how the track or cable assembly works..., so decided on replacements. The front roof won't even open - just grinds; the rear opens, but slides half-way back on the first tap of the button (vice just popping up).

Of course, dealer (stealer) diagnostic was that they both are to the point of needing to be changed out.... $$$ cha ching!

Does this make any sense?
Again, thanks,
Larry

Yeah....if lubricating them doesn't work, or they are too far gone for that save yourself the trouble and replace them. And keep them lubed properly so you don't have to do it again.

Also, you can make some cash on those motors that you don't need

Daryl, thanks again! Appreciate the shop manual, too..., would've like to find that years ago!

I'll probably sell both roof assemblies "as is" for parts - all of which probably work, with exception of the drive cable (from what I can now tell).
