Default Replacing a water pump as PM?

I'm not sure where I got this idea, but it is seeming rather odd now. I'm changing out my radiator, t-stat, and serpentine belt. Belt for services, radiator because it is leaking, and t-stat for PM. I'm not sure where I got this idea from, but I was going to replace the water pump while I was down there. What is the average break-down interval for a water pump? Is it worth it to replace while everything is off and coolant is drained? It is a 2003 disco with 60,000 miles.

Thanks!

You could see a water pump failure in the next 30K, possibly.

Thanks.. I just noticed the rover manual explains to remove viscous fan prior to moving to radiator removal. Is it absolutely necessary, and do I need those two special tools to do it with?

It is easier to remove the radiator with the fan removed and yes you need a special, really thin wrench to pull the fan off.

I would go ahead and replace the viscous clutch while you are at it. If you are replacing the pump, another $100 is cheaper than a hole in your radiator.

I've been reading viscous clutch horror stories, so it is starting to make sense to change that joker out too. Theclutch from atlantic british is currently marked down to 180 bucks. I'm going to have to order those two special wrenches for the viscous fan also, looks to be about a hundred bucks total. Any alternatives to that one?

Not to turn this into a money pit, but you may want to replace the fan too, they get brittle and can fly apart putting a dent in your hood (so I have read).

THe wrenches make it a LOT easier. If you are waiting on the parts anyway, I would get the wrenches if they aren't too much.

Anybody else before I put inmy lastparts order? Perhaps an engine rebuild while I'm in there?
