Resleeve or replace?

Resleeve or replace?
I had my truck 97 disco I 100K checked out (by LR)shortly after I bought it. They told me I needed a new long block. The No1 cylinder checks at 25 psi, I'm burnin massive amounts of oil, they said they suspect a broken ring or piston. They also said for them to do it it would cost $11,000.00. Just need a little advice here Thanks

RE: Resleeve or replace?
The guy at LR told me the techs there were not trained to resleeve an engine and that the only way that THEY could fix it was replace it. Much to my amazement he actually suggested I take it somewhere else. (like I wasn't anyway) The only problem is I can't find anyone near (couple hours drive, day) that is capable or willing to take it on. I got a quote from carcannibal in OK for 5500. for a 4.6 L with a cam and other "performance upgrades" I'm thinkin it may not be right but I can buy lots of oil for 5500!?

RE: Resleeve or replace?
I forgot to mention the LR guy suggested diesel replacement. I don't have a problem with this, but are their diesel engines any good (quality, sound, etc.) where would I go about getting a good one? is there a difference in price? I really need someone with a tdi to tell me about 'em I guess

JR,
The cylinder sleeves are not factory serviceable. Short block is the factory answer. However, these are in tight demand as Rover is no longer producing them. A diesel conversion is quite involved.
I have heard of a CO that resleaves these. Let me know, I'll try to find .
