Is this right? Propshaft Question
Hi All,
I received the front propshaft that I ordered from ToddCo today and opened the package up to see what I received. Inside the box I found the shaft and a crapload of grease applied all over the joints (see pics at: http://flic.kr/p/ceX4h1 ).
I'm not sure if it is a common practice to pack the outside of the joints and it kind of worries me to the point that I'm thinking of returning this shaft and ordering one from BPUtah. Opinions?

That would scare me, it's just sloppy. Not that grease on the exterior will hurt much as it would be flung off in the first block (all over the underside of the car and the exhaust). To me it would indicate carelessness in the rebuilder. How hard is it to wipe the excess grease off?
It doesn't hurt anything.
Could be sloppy, or could be thinking it helps keep water from getting past the seals.
Or maybe it is so there is clear evidence that it was greased post assembly like it's supposed to be and that grease is coming from around all 4 seals of each u-joint.
When I grease mine I wipe out most of the grease, but I'm not compulsive about it.

ToddCo is getting worse and worse regarding so many areas, here is just another reason to buy elsewhere.
I would send it back and go buy one you can trust form Great Basins Rovers or someone that builds, sells and delivers a great product.

Thanks for the responses so far...
I agree that while it may not hurt the integrity or performance of the part, I was a little disappointed that the excess grease was not cleaned and the grease removed from the shaft. I had to ask my son to take the picture of the shaft because my hands got all that black moly grease on them just handling the shaft.
So at this point I am leaning towards sending the shaft back to them and spending the extra bucks at a local shop (South Bay Driveline) just so I'm not waiting too long to replace the propshaft.
In my opinion, presentation and appearance make all the difference in how your work quality is perceived, even though it's not always the case, but it does help. And then again, price was a factor in my decision to buy the ToddCo part.
