Yes you can run LR3 wheels on a D2 but you will need these hub adaptor rings Résultats Google Recherche d'images correspondant à http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/images/DA2075_web.jpg as the D2 hubs are smaller. I run Range Rover 265 55 R19 wheels on my D2 and they require hub adaptors and RR wheel (lug) nuts as the standard D2 wheel nuts will not fit the later type wheels.
These wheels to be precise.

Errrrrrrr, 'cos I got them brand, spanking new 5-6 years ago with new Goodyear F1 tires on them, straight off a new Range Rover..................... for cost of zilch, nothing, free and I use mine mostly on tarmac................exactly what I wanted......................................now who would be dumb enough to say......................"no thank you give them to a boy racer".................

18" wheels are bad enough on a D2, LR3 wheels typically are 19" and bigger. Bigger the tire, the greater reduction in ride comfort and the more expensive the tire. Some people claim that adapters and non OEM wheels can cause long term damage to the vehicle.
What you could have done with those free brand spanking new wheels, is sell them for a good price and use that money towards getting your colling system updated or set aside for the anticipated engine failure......

The adapters to make a big range rover or LR3 wheel fit a D2 or P38 are hub bore adapters that can cause no damage. You are thinking of the adapters to make these wheels for a d1 which are basically spacers. Or wheels with a drastically different offset than stock. But even them I don't think there is a consensus on them causing damage. Some people run them for many thousands of miles with no issues.
I personally like more side wall, but some people prefer the improved handling of low profile. Makes sense if you don't go off road.
