Default rocks and windshields

So the other day at work, I left my disco parked on our gravel lot and some ****head decided to do donuts with his truck, kicking up rocks and cracking my windshield. I'm probably going through the insurance but wanted to know how much it costs to replace, and I wanted to upgrade to the heated one since I have the wiring for it.

Is it that simple??

You'd need a relay, maybe the fuses, and the switch. You'll also most likely have to have the BCU configured for it.

I had safelite replace mine. They had no issues when I asked to be able to pay the difference and upgrade to heated.

How would one go about configuring the bcu?

hawkeye or nanocom or something.

I think someone in your area recently posted to have something that might work.

EDIT: I lied. I don't see San Diego.

I just did it on my 2003 Disco. You will need a relay which is installed in the relay box under the hood. You will also need a specific switch made for the 2003 IIRC (got mine from Paul Grant). You can get it program for the BCU to turn the feature on. The programming only took a few minutes.

I may be dumb for asking this, but why do you need a heated windshield in San Diego? Thought you guys had "perfect" weather over there.

Via the OBD2 port. Needs a hawkeye, nanocom, t4, autologic, something.

All I would add is to make sure that whomever you hire to swap the glass has worked on a Discovery before and knows how to remove and replace the right and left side frame covers and the lower cover where the wipers are mounted. These plastic parts are easily broken and if they don't properly install the lower one you can get rain water leaking into the interior just above the glove box as there is a fresh air plenum there just under the cover.
