Default Rod Knock?
Hi all,

Recently developed this nasty sound coming from my 4.6 with 150k miles. Only appears from 1-2k rpm and seems to disappear from 2.7k on. Is this rod knock? Could it be valvetrain related?

It sounds fine? I can kind of hear a noisy power steering pump I think but besides that it doesn't sound like any knocking.

Don't hear a rod knock. Suggest you do the shop vac exhaust leak test, oil pressure test.

Ok. Thanks for your help guys. I am going to check the exhaust gaskets tomorrow, I only notice a hissing sound with the "knock" so I believe it could be a leak at the manifold or something.

Actually sounds like very slight exhaust leak to me (or even SAI pump on cold start on the 4.6 which can exacerbate an exhaust leak sound FYI) -- I'd agree w/ above as your starting point !

Funny you say SAI pump, mine completely exploded a few days ago (It blew into 5 pieces when i started the truck) and I currently do not even have one on the truck. Waiting for it to be delivered.
