Default Roof Rack Seal install - tricky?

So, I just purchased the replacement seals for the factory roof rack, eight total. Does anyone have advice for replacing these or is it pretty straight forward? They are all different sizes etc. This is for an 04 with the larger bars.

I thought there were only four rubber seals? dab of silicone at bolt holes would be helpful...

obviously, you have to pull the headliner to get to the fixing points, so might as well be prepared to fix your sun roof drains...

Looks like there is a upper and lower for each. Weird shapes. I went off the Rover parts diagram. I plan to do this when I redo the headliner so all things roof related get sorted.

....... interesting...I just saw the outside one...just had my headliner out too! Guess they 'sandwich' together....still, a touch of silicone may be helpful...

Actually I think you are right with only four. The LR parts diagram and part numbers for this are a mess. Looks like multiple part numbers reference different parts for different locations. Uggh...

Didn't you say you have a 2004? totally different seal than pictured above... You really just have the rubber thing that joins the bar to the car (with the fat round bars), pretty sure you don't use the 8 weird shaped foam seals like 99-03's.

Yeah, my 01 and 03 just had plastic pad under roof rack outside, with some sort of sealant between it and roof and flat washers/lock nut inside. There definitely wasn't any of the parts shown/pictured above in mine.

And, l'm not so sure that the headliner has to come out...EDIT...it looks like it does.

Yes, but the diagram above indicates they fit the 04. I think LR did not update the parts diagram for the 04 model year. I cannot find any parts pictures that show the 04 bars. I wrongly assumed the picture was not correct and the parts were correct. I am now thinking both are wrong. Will see what I get when I take it apart.

I'm pretty sure the 04's (which I took apart once) just have the rubber seal you can see from the outside of the car when the rails are mounted. In that case, I'd re-use them as I think they are NLA and just put a circle shaped bead of black sealant underneath at both mounting points (careful with amount so it doesn't squish out and look a mess on the paint).

I can also confirm that you must take out the headliner to remove the nuts holding the roof rails on the roof.
