Default Roof Racks/Baskets

Has anyone used these types of roof racks on their Discovery2? Any pics?

I've seen the full SD style racks, and while I like them I honestly don't that much space or that large a price tag.

I did just find this. Still curious if anyone has any experience with them.

They're over priced, that's almost exactly the same as the ~$100 WalMart special. CarId is typically pretty overpriced.

If you want something a little more high quality and a little more rugged looking, check out this. That's the one I plan on getting in the future.

There are also a multitude of similar options to what you are posting on Amazon such as this one.

Here's a whole bunch of options.

Of course, you'll have to either buy or make cross rails separately for any of these options or for the one you posted.

Yea I like that Safari Rack. I have the factory crossbars, will those work?

I just wasn't sure if anyone else has the smaller style rack on top of their Discovery? I haven't seen too many pics online.

I have the one Alex_m has listed from Amazon and its been fine. I wouldnt leave it on full time as it does seem to drip rust spots out of it if it get wet. After I bolted it together I used some black silicone to prevent water from getting into it again so it may be fine. I am at work so no pics but I will try to get home and snap some pics. I also have an enclosed box that is long that works well as well but it was in the 400 dollar range. I would like to have a full rack for the disco but havent found a used on my area and hard for me to drop 1000 on something I wouldnt used all that often, plus it wont fit in the garage. I have thought about learning welding an making my own but no time so far. Nice thing about the basket and cargo box is I can move from car to car pretty easily

I have the Cabela extended rack version. It is similar to the Curt one. It has been useful for hauling stuff on our family road trips and offroad excursions. My wife and I have 3 kids. So, roof carrying capacity is very useful. I also recommend a cargo net to go with the roof basket.

I am planning to mount a roof top tent in the rear. The basket will be shortened and relocated to the front. Or I am considering going to a Baja expedition rack or a Front Runner rack.

acg, I like that! What did you use to mount that rack to the rain channel?

They are the Thule 953 (high mount legs) and Thule cross bars. This will allow you to open the rear sunroof.

Alternatively, you can get the factory roof rail extension which extends the factory rails all the way to the back. You then add the factory cross bars to them..... or third-party cross bars.

Very nice, thanks everyone. I tried looking around to find the factory rail extensions as I already have the factory cross bars. That extension kit seems hard to come by now.

I'll look at the Thule legs as well, I don't have a sunroof so that should make things a little easier.
