I’m trying to see if I can locate them locally at a surplus place but most likely will order them , 19$ but 22$ shipping kills it

 

Pelican cases, they are rugged and waterproof. Used ones can be found on ebay, auctions or sometimes yard sales.

Yeah most Surplus stores around here normally have them. I also have a rather unique larger hard plastic ammo box, and I kick myself when I didn't buy 2!

 

How do you guys prevent these rooftop boxes from being stolen while on a trip and...say... stopping by a grocery store for provisions?

 

I have a couple of antitheft lockable ratchet straps I planned on using unless someone can think of a superior method

 

Honestly it's pretty darn high up there for starters, they aren't light, and I'm usually in a group so whenever we stop someone is always out near the vehicles. If I'm by myself I try to be as quick as possible, I try to park right up at the front so I can see it while in the store, and I park wherever I see cameras. The $$$$ is usually inside the vehicle. I haven't had stuff stolen in or off of a LR yet. When I had 2 05 Jeep Wranglers (TJ Rubicon and an LJ) it was very common for stuff to just vanish and sadly it was theft from within the group!!! I have never ever experienced that with a single LR group in all my years of wheeling.

I'm not sure why someone would want that much extra weight up top. I keep my tools in the footwell of the second seat area. Lowers the center of gravity.

The recovery begins.

Drove through this same part of the trail without issue, just moments before this rover (with a tire and storage compartment up top), rolled onto its side. Same thing would happen, most likely, if a evasive maneuver was made at road speed.

When l have storage boxes up top...it is all of the lightest stuff l carry during camping trips. TP, paper plates, blankets, sleeping bags, etc. Recovery stuff, tools, parts all get stored down low, either beneath the sleeping platform or in footwell.
