Default Rotella Synthetic 5W-40

Has anyone ever run Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 in the there Rover. I run it in 3 of my diesel ford pickups and an international dump. I buy it in bulk and was considering running in an 03' Disco. It says it suitable for all gasoline engines, and I have only read great things about this oil. I know several truckers that go well over 12,000 on this oil.

We've run this in all our diesels and from everything I've read, it works great in a Rover engine too, arguably it's the bestoil for them. It's not an over-the-road diesel, so I definitely wouldn't go 12k miles on it. Maybe 5-6k miles or so, depending on the type of driving you do. It's too bad that stuff has gotten so expensive now but it sounds like thats not really an issue for you.

Hi,
I use Total Rubia XT usually in my 300Tdi. The spec for them is change every 5000Km. I often stretch that to 6000 or a bit more as most of my running is long distance. I know a few of the guys in town use the Total Quartz 7000 semi synth in their TD5s.

Useless info but..[8D]

No such thing as useless info, or stupid questions.
Go for it, nothing wrong with using that in your Disco, 5w-40 is 5w-40.

Actually, I too was wondering about running 5W40 in my rover. I have a VW TDI and run the Castrol 5W40 full synthetic in that. I noticed the Mobil1 5W40 for trucks and SUV, and wondered if it would work in the disco. I would like to know if anyone has had any sucess in it. Also, I have heard offolks running Rotella in their VWs, so, in the schemeof standardizing oil, wonder it would work in both vehicles.

Short answer, yes to all.
You can run any motor oil that you want in any car that you want.
Just no non-detergant motor oil, and it will say non-detergant right on the front of the bottle.
I use Mobil 1 15w-50 in both my Rover and my wifes turbo Volvo, non diesel.
Change it every 5,000 miles and dont worry about it.
