Rover Down need help reviving
LRD2 -
Do the minimum necessary to get your truck running with hose fixed, coolant topped off, etc. Then, have your mechanic to the proper tests to ensure you don't have a leaky head gasket. Once you have a clean bill of health you can then go ahead, tear her down and replace everything...do the tune-up, seafoam etc.
This way, IF YOU DO HAVE A BAD GASKET you can go back to the shop and have the gasketrepaired whilegetting credit for the prior work since they said the gaskets were good to go. You shouldn't have to pay twice to have your truck tore down when it wasn't repaired correctly the first time.

I think Mike's suggestion is a good one since the O.P. is certainly in the "zone" milage wise for a leaking head gasket. Much time and effort (= $$) will be wasted if he doesn't completely rule out the head gasket. Of course, worst case is that it's fine, then starts leaking next month after the repairs are done [sm=boohoo.gif].
The truth be told, owning a DiscoIS a slightly scary situation..... A couple thou kept in the disco account keeps it manageable though.....

This guy obviously has no clue, because he is leaking antifreeze and still driving. He needs to fix the leak first, before doing other tune-related things.
Replace the Hoses..
Replace the Thermostat...
Use New Hose Clamps..
Take the Box of Hoses to the parts house and get a clamp for every end of every hose..
That way you dont have a bunch of big clamps cinched way down..
Burp the system...
Im not sure on the procedure on DII's but basicly you want to open the resevoir cap and whatever fill cap is on the uppermost part of the system and let it idle till all the air makes its way out of the system... This may take several heat cycles.. 15-20 minutes..
The next morning check the level of coolant in the system..
If your not leaking fluid anymore.. everything is golden..
If coolant is disapearing you probably have an issue..\
Leaking Coolant is one thing..
Using Coolant is another...
You want to use the SeaFoam before you change your plugs..
You dont want to foul your nice shiny plugs..

Ruling out the head gaskets is a good idea, but to tell someone theycame close to toasting their engine and they need new head gaskets is scary for a newb. I was just stating that Mike is very cut and dried about replacement. There are things to check, and an order to do them in.

I hear what you're saying and I agree. I certainly didn't mean to discount yourcomments, I think mylast two posts support them.
Mike is a great source of info and we both know that his brevity(at times) tends to suggest the least favorable outcomes - neither of usthought this was automatically the caseso weeach responded in our own way.Between everyone that responded the O.P. is getting the (balanced) info he needs.
It's a Beautiful day down here in Baja Oklahoma!!
