Default Rplacing Fan Clutch: how to remove pressed on fan blades?

Hi all.

Replacing fan clutch off my D2.

Got fan assembly (fan blades +clutch) off.

Discovered that my fan blade is not bolted to the clutch like some but rather somehow pressed directly onto the clutch.

I have seen others where the clutch is mated to the fan with 4 bolts/screws.

It appears that maybe the 00-02 D2 was fitted with a blade that had an integrated cowl-like protector around the edges of the blades, while the fan blades on my 04 D2 have no such integrated cowling but rather are floating free at the edge.

Can the fan blade assembly on my fan+clutch be separated from/pressed off the fan blades or is my fan assembly a one-piece integrated unit and therefore do I need to buy a new fan blade with the 4 bolt mounting arrangement?

Should I go with the free-and-loose blades or with blades with the protective/constraining built-in cowling?

Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

Take a pic of your fan assembly. I’m curious to see what you are talking about.

As for the fan, I used the Dorman #620-112 Radiator Fan on my Disco 2 and it was an easy swap with a Hayden #2781 Fan Clutch.

03-04 is a one piece design, while 99-02 is the traditional 2 piece with a fan blade/clutch that are bolted together. Curious as to what you've got as well.

Had the same on my 04 -replaced with the dorman fan and Hayden clutch. Fits in without any clearance issues but it is a little nosier on startup and when the engine gets warm enough to tighten things up

Yup. My daughter's 2003 D2 had the 1-piece clutch+fan blades. I bought the Hayden fan clutch online and the Dorman fan blades (from Autozone, maybe).

So you don't reuse the original fan blades, you replace them with the Dorman fan blades that just bolt on/off of the new fan clutch... because that's $200 cheaper than buying a new 1-piece fan clutch+blade assembly.

The Hayden severe service fan clutch is what I got.

The difference is significant: the current clutch spins freely (no resistance) when cold, the new Hayden has a lot of resistance.

Will send picture when my son gets back with it.

So look for a fan blade from 00-02: will those have "free" blades or with the ring around the edge (which looks like what was used on the D1, RR and other predecessor models).

Dorman fan blade is open, 99-02 is a closed fan blade. If you wanna pay 50-60 you can get the OEM 99-02 setup or grab the dorman unit for 25.00. I’m sticking with the dorman unit as it’s easy to find, works perfectly, and it’s cheaper.

OK, ordered a fan blade to go with my fan clutch.

Any idea what size bolts I need to secure the blade to the clutch?

SAE? Metric? Diameter and length? Guessing they don't need to be anything special in terms of hardness, stretch, etc.

The fan clutches I've bought from Auto Zone have always come with the bolts for the fan blade.
