Unhappy Rubber plugs on oil pan

I followed the wonderful write up on how to change the oil pump and timing chain. While I had the oil pan off, I removed the rubber plugs on the bag which were caked with oil. After I fully cleaned the pan and was ready to reinstall, I cant get those sorry plugs to go back in for nothing. I want to get them in before I climb back under the truck with the pan. These are the flywheel plugs. I know it has to be something simple, but I cant get them in. Please help.

I ran into the same thing when I pulled the pan on my 04. The issue is that they are swollen from oil saturation over the years. I gave up and bought a couple new ones. The size difference was crazy. I don't think you'll be able to get them in the way they are now if they were anything like mine.

Yes, they have swollen and will need replaced. In the meantime, cover up the holes with tape or something until you can get new ones.

https://www.roverparts.com/engine/ga...eals/ERR7229G/

or you could measure the hole and see what's available at your hardware store.

Good idea @HuskerRover. Both of mine are missing so I’ll use my micrometer and mic it out.
