So I want a 78c stamped not a 82c. I believe I've got the 82c. I was sceptical of an amazon tstat but it did work better than the 2 stock ones I tried. I will try one from bearmarch if that's the best place to get it.

Heater core and the rest of the system has been flushed as well, forgot to mention.

My experience with Lucky 8 stats.

Lucky 8 has two different 180° stats, one for $33 (aftermarket brand) and one for $85 (genuine). I believe, from what l've read...the cheaper one has been the cause of issues for some. Both genuine ones that l've bought from Lucky 8 work fine.

I got the gen one from Lucky8 - about $80. Previous owner had been running a cream colored Motorad stat. My temps dropped from 201 to 188 on the highway and 205 to 192 in traffic.

Has anyone else had good luck with the bearmach one? What I've found is the bearmach one is $21 plus $18 shipping, Part # PEL500110R . It says its 78 degree and it's the only one I've found so far that says 78.
78 c=172 f

The lucky8 site has 2 at the moment:
PEL500110GEN-UK is $85 +shipping and says its genuine
and PEL500110 is $33 +shipping
both of the lucky8 say they are 180 f
82 c = 180 f

Does anyone have more input on the bearmach one since I've never heard of it, and I dont want to drop $85+ on a lucky8 tstat that is already hotter than somewhere else that's cheaper. this would be the 4th tstat I've put in the rover and I'd like it to be the last haha.

Pm @Extinct about one of his inline mod kits.
He says he has more coming...and they're cheaper.

Another thing you can/should do when you receive the new one is boil it in a pot of water on your stove and measure with an IR thermometer when you see it starting to open. That'll confirm that it's working as expected.

Guys, he said that the temp gauge is up in the red sometimes. That is usually like 250 or something. Don't we think there is a bigger issue than the thermostat? Thermostat tweaks is usually trying to get from 220 to 200, not all the way down from 250. Obviously the thermostat should be addressed and I guess it is an easy fix (except for how hard it is to order it).

Missed this. You're right. Need to get a real-time tool to monitor actual engine temps, since the idiot-gauge on the dash is useless.

Continuing to drive it with temps high enough to move the needle will lead to serious engine damage.
