Default Runs a little rough at start up

I noticed the other day my Disco runs a little rough, only maybe the first 5 seconds it's on, it smooths out nicely after. Plugs and wires are new magnecores/platinums, and I did the throttle body cleaning just before I did the plugs and wires.

Is your clutch fan coming on as soon as you start the truck?
Or does it take a few seconds before you hear it?
Is it rough only when cold? Or is it after a hot start too?

The fan engages as soon as it's started, but it was replaced when the truck was my father's, and he replaced it with a pretty crappy (I think ProLine) unit that doesn't disengage. Ever. I think it's only rough when cold, but I'm not sure so I'll give it a test later today.

I ask about the fan because of the weirdest thing.
My truck was idling rough for the longest time, at stop lights it felt like it was going to stall, really rough when cold, etc.
Come to find out my clutch fan was not working at all, it was just free wheeling.
Fixed it and my idle is now as smooth as a babies bottom.
I did plugs, wires, induction cleaning, t-body cleaning, different brands of gas, you name it I tried it.
It was the stupid fan, seriously, I mean it was the stupid @ss fan.
Without the fan working properly it threw off the harmonic balance of the universe and the LR Gods needed a sacrifice.
Fixed fan clutch and all is good.

Mitch, have you been adding coolant over the last month or so, any white smoke? I am wondering if you have a little head gasket seepage into one cylinder, that can cause a rough start that will then burn off and settle down.

Doesn't happen when it's hot. Haven't had to add coolant yet, I'll check the level later. No white smoke either. Stupid check engine light made a triumphant return just now though, I think the Disco is jealous, I took my brother to autozone to get him a few parts for his Sebring. I swear my Disco is just like my ex...

Coolant's definitely getting low. Looks like I may have to do a head gasket job. Any way to tell for sure?

Sure, pull all your spark plugs when cold and sniff for coolant or get down and sniff your exhaust as soon as you cold start it, see if it smell sweet.

Will do tom. morning. If it does need the head gaskets what are the chances I can put it off a month or so? I'm really strapped for cash at the moment, but I only drive the thing 5k a year.

Depends on how bad the leak is.
I would top it off and then check it once a week when you check the oil and see if it drops again.
No need to jump to conclusions to quickly.
