Default Rust

I've read some threads that discos tend to rust, is that true? I thought it was made out of aluminium?

To a small extent and mainly in the snow states because of the salt, pretty much like any other vehicle.

DIIs are known to rust more than their other Land Rover counterparts. There was recently a person on here with a 6 FOOT split in their chassis from rust. In Vermont DIIs get crazy rusty, I saw one go from almost all black underneath to all surface rust. The brine is pretty bad up here.

The outer skin of the D1 doors is aluminum, but the roof is steel. To confirm aluminum areas, apply fridge magnet.

If you're worried about rust I've heard good things about waxoyl. A place around me will do the entire underside for like $200.

As far as it made of aluminum...the engine (mostly) and some of the body panels are, the rest is steel including the chassis, cross-members, axles, etc.

In my comment I was strictly referring to their hydroformed chassis. I am getting my Disco waxoyld in a few weeks before the salt goes down. I'll also go into winter mode soon, which means parking the Disco for a long time, and driving my winter beater.

I was looking for an s-60r before I found my disco, I dont have the luxury of paved burlington roads down here so I need the ground clearance and the ruggedness of the disco to keep me going (as long as IT keeps going). Had an audi A4 before and it was just too low. I cringed going down some roads around here. Granted being lowered by about 1.5in on coilovers didn't help either.

A magnet will stick to the roof and the 4 doors not the hood, fenders, rear door or the rear quarters there is your steel and there is your aluminum i have known frame rust to be a problem but not so much body rust.

Where did you find a place to do the waxoyl for $200? The wax is almost that much alone.
